Mark Rastrick CMIOSH – Director

Guardian Risk Management was formed by Mark Rastrick, who has nearly 20 year's experience in industry. He is a qualified chemist and spent several years working in the chemical industry undertaking analysis of raw materials and finished products.

Mark began his career in health and safety in 1995 when he started work as the Health and Safety Officer for Parker Filtration, a division of Parker Hannifin based in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, an engineering company who manufacture motion and control systems for various industries.

Mark helped Parker Filtration implement a health and safety management system, he delivered training courses for employees and management to help them understand their roles and responsibilities, wrote the Company health and safety policy manual and developed other documentation still used by Parker Hannifin today including risk assessments, safe systems of work and hazard reporting strategies.

Mark left Parker Hannifin in 1997 to join United Biscuits McVitie’s factory at Harlesden in London. Mark helped McVitie’s reduce accident numbers by developing strategies to help the management team incorporate health and safety into their daily routines.

Whilst working for United Biscuits, Mark helped develop the general risk assessment model for managers to identify hazards and manage the risks. He also introduced a manual handling assessment programme and developed safe systems of work that incorporated the assessments. Mark wrote and delivered several health and safety courses for both managers and employees.

In 2002 Mark joined Aon Limited, insurance brokers, as one of their risk control consultants. Mark’s role within Aon was extremely varied, but principally involved helping businesses to minimise the risks of accidents and ill health and also minimise the likelihood of compensation claims. This assisted the brokers at renewal in finding better terms and premiums for their clients.

Mark specialises in setting up health and safety management systems, risk assessments and training. He is a qualified lead auditor for OHSAS 18001 and has developed training courses that have been accredited by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), the recognised leading body in health and safety in the UK.

Mark is also on the Register of Safety Practitioners held by IOSH which certifies that he has obtained the necessary qualifications and experience to provide competent health and safety advice to businesses.

Mark’s objective is to help small and medium sized businesses effectively manage their health and safety risks. Because of his background, Mark is able to work closely with clients to identify their key risks and implement strategies to reduce them. Ultimately saving clients time and money.
